Is per diem work easier to get into then part/full-time work?

I just graduated fresh from school in my field (CNA) and I found a per diem job I am interested in. I was wondering, would it be easier as a new grad to break into per diem work than to try for Part/full-time? I figured it would be less competitive since most people want work that is more reliable.
